2016/17

Upon completion of the BioInnovate fellowship in 2017, Stephen became cofounder and CEO of Venari Medical, a medical device manufacturing company focusing on scientific research & development for better patient outcomes in venous disease. He leads a team which includes two of his BioInnovate teammates, Nigel Phelan and Sean Cummins. With seed funding gained through the Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Fund mechanism the team have enjoyed international recognition with the award of first prize at the EIT Health Innovation Fellowship Alumni Showcase 2017. The team are continuing to develop the world’s safest treatment for varicose veins with Stephen at the helm. With pre-clinical trials showing preliminary strong results, the team will forge ahead towards Series A investment in 2019, which Stephen has stated is required for first-in-man clinical trials, EU & US regulatory approval, and commercialisation in 2020.
