Plastics Team

Maria Galve Villa qualified as a nurse in 2001 from the University of Zaragoza (Spain) and continued her career to qualify as a physiotherapist in 2005 from University Alfonso X el Sabio (Spain). In 2011 she was awarded an MSc in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy from University College Dublin (Ireland). Maria has worked in clinical practice for over 10 years in the Danish, Irish and Spanish healthcare systems. Her main area of specialization focuses on the wellbeing and self-management of patients with chronic pain. Maria excels in treating patients with functional (somatic) disorders and complex chronic pain conditions using a bio-psycho-social approach grounded in patient empowerment. In 2016, Maria was accepted as a PhD Fellow at the Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain (CNAP), Aalborg University (Denmark). Her research investigated the use of digital mapping technology, and explored novel pain metrics to track, qualify and quantify changes of pain over time. Her research aimed to capture, describe, and evaluate the clinical picture of painful conditions using modern and accessible technology (e-health). She has published in international peer-reviewed journals and has been involved in dissemination activities through congress presentations, including presenting her research at a Young Researchers Workshop at the European Pain Congress (EFIC). Additionally, during her PhD studies Maria was awarded “highly commended poster” and received several travel grants. Maria has lectured in pain- related subjects in Ireland, Denmark, and continues to lecture remotely in Spain. In the future she hopes to continue developing and implementing e-health and other digital solutions to bridge the gap between researchers, the industry, and the individual. Maria enjoys spending time with her family, sports and outdoors.
