Alan completed his undergraduate degree in Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering from University College Dublin in 2007 and began his career with the Abbott on the graduate Professional Development Program (PDP). Alan rotated between four distinct roles, manufacturing and quality engineering, manufacturing supervision and capital projects, at four of Abbott’s manufacturing sites in Ireland. He then went on to focus on drug eluting stent delivery systems post completion of the graduate program. Alan worked in manufacturing support engineering on multiple cost improvement and quality improvement projects before relocating to California to support late stage development and manufacturing readiness of drug eluting stent (DES) products. Alan has also held the role of operational excellence lead focusing on overall plant efficiency with Mylan where he completed a Six Sigma Black Belt. Now, having re-joined Abbott in Clonmel as a Senior R&D Engineer, Alan is supporting the Research and Development efforts for Abbott’s newest DES. Alan is looking forward to the new learning opportunities and clinical immersion as part of the Bioinnovate fellowship and concentrating on developing new devices and a pipeline of ideas to meet unmet clinical needs in the cardiac vascular anatomy.
