Dr. Cormac Flynn obtained a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering from National University of Ireland, Galway in 2008 and his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Ulster in 2013.
Cormac has worked extensively in the medical device sector, in both Ireland and overseas, bringing devices to market, improving manufacturing processes and developing operational strategies for small, medium and large companies. Cormac has developed and patented innovative medical devices in the cardiovascular and respiratory care markets along with novel methods of creating a time-based surface chemistry of polymeric materials.
During his PhD, Cormac successfully developed a novel method of cost effectively modifying the surface chemistry of polymers, changing the interaction with various cell types with the aim of targeting a specific desirable biological response in active biomaterials. Cormac presented at national and international conferences including the European Biomaterials Society in 2010 and 2011 and the World Biomaterials Congress in Chengdu, China in 2012. Cormac has consistently demonstrated the ability to apply innovative solutions to difficult challenges in R&D and manufacturing. Cormac's experience managing teams has instilled a belief that effective collaborative teamwork can accomplish more powerful and inventive solutions than working alone. Cormac joined BioInnovate with a personal goal to become a leader in improving patient outcomes by growing and scaling a pioneering MedTech business. Cormac enjoys hiking, rugby and any water activity.
