Clare’s fascination with concept, design, and development of medical devices to improve patient outcomes has grown throughout her nursing career. Having received her Nursing Diploma from Middlesex University, London, Clare went on to study a Bachelor of Nursing Science and a Higher Diploma in Perioperative Practice at NUIG before gaining a Postgraduate Diploma in First Line Management from NCI. With over 15 years of experience as a senior Clinical Nurse Manager, Clare has expert knowledge of the operating theatre for multiple specialties including Vascular, General, Urology, Breast, Thyroid, ENT and Ophthalmology. She has facilitated patient care management and medical device stock for upwards of 500 vascular procedures per year and is a member of the UHG Procurement and Medical Device Regulation working groups. Clare co-founded a successful R&D supply company Ellax Medical in 2019 providing high quality animal products and clinical consultancy to medical device teams. Working within the R&D sector directly has helped Clare develop a large network of contacts and a deeper understanding of the industry. Ellax Medical counts BioInnovate start-ups, multinational medical device companies and University research laboratories amongst their regular clients. In 2020 Clare provided clinical insight at the project planning and implementation phases of the installation of the 4-million-euro state-of-the-art hybrid operating suite in UHG. Having studied Human Centred Design in 2021, she has applied the process successfully in the clinical setting. Clare’s real-world knowledge of each aspect of the medical device journey offers a unique perspective in identifying unmet needs and designing innovative solutions in health care. She sees the BioInnovate Fellowship as the perfect environment for her to grow as a potential leader in MedTech industry. Clare enjoys spending time with family and friends, enjoying fitness, team sports, cycling and tennis.
