Aine graduated from University College Cork (UCC) in 2019 with an honours degree in medicine. She has since gained clinical experience as a doctor in a myriad of specialties in both medicine and surgery. Aine’s surgical experience includes orthopaedic, plastic, colorectal, and general surgery. She has also gained experience in oncology, haematology, geriatric, and acute medicine. She has worked in multiple healthcare settings both public and private, giving her a unique insight into the wide range of unmet clinical needs throughout the healthcare system. She completed a master’s in biomedical engineering at the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG) in 2022, which has provided her with additional engineering skills required for device innovation. As part of her masters, she completed research in actuatable soft robotic devices used to control the foreign body response. Aine’s experience to date has fostered a passion for medical device innovation to ultimately provide improved patient centered care. Aine has always had an interest in device innovation, and she believes that the BioInnovate Fellowship Programme will provide her with skills and knowledge on how to be successful in the medical technology sector. She is delighted to become a full time fellow. Originally from Kerry, in her spare time she enjoys playing football, listening to audiobooks, building models, hiking and sea swimming. Aine’s artistic flare and eye for design extends outside of work having designed professional Christmas cards, created sets for musicals and winning national art competitions.
