Breege Donegan

Breege Donegan
RGN, BSc, PgDip, MSc
Respiratory and Anaesthetics Team

After travelling the world as a professional Irish dancer in shows such as Riverdance, Trad on the Prom and Ragus, Breege decided it was time to pursue another one of her passions in life and went back to university to become a nurse. Shortly after graduating with a BSc in General Nursing from University College Dublin, Breege worked in Beaumont hospital in respiratory nursing care and completed her Postgraduate diploma in the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. On moving home to Galway, Breege worked for over 7 years on a surgical ward, gaining experience in the urology and maxillofacial specialities. Her person-centered approach to nursing and her belief in patient advocacy inspires her to continue her studies. While working as a nurse in Galway, she graduated with a First Class Masters degree in General Nursing from the University of Limerick. As part of her MSc thesis she completed a systematic review which focused on patients’ reported quality of life with an ileal conduit due to cystectomy after bladder cancer. This was subsequently published in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Nursing Practice. Her passion for healthcare, research and her ability to excel in different work environments is well suited to the BioInnovate dynamic. Throughout her clinical career, she worked in over ten hospitals in Ireland, including larger hospitals, high-tech hospitals including Blackrock Clinic and smaller local hospitals such as St Michael’s in Dun Laoghaire. These experiences have given her great insight into various types of patient care and needs. She believes the BioInnovate fellowship will provide her with the tools necessary to channel her creativity and innovation, working with like-minded people from different backgrounds to develop novel solutions to unmet clinical needs, improving and changing the lives of thousands of people, globally. When she is not dancing or nursing, Breege loves to bake, run, walk her dogs and spend time with her family & friends.
