Charlene spent the last 6 years working as a medical doctor in the Irish healthcare system. Graduating with an honour’s degree in medicine from NUIG in 2015, she went on to complete her internship and Basic Specialist Training, before securing a highly coveted spot on the Higher Specialist Training scheme in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and General Internal Medicine. In conjunction with her clinical training, Charlene has completed her professional examinations, becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2017. She has conducted numerous research projects throughout her training, which she has presented on both a national and international stage and she has been involved as a sub-investigator in 5 clinical trials. To complement this, she has completed a master's degree in clinical research gaining a first-class honour. Charlene believes in the value of clinical education and is working as a clinical lecturer in the field of gastroenterology, hepatology, and endocrinology with the School of Medicine in NUIG this year while she pursues a formal degree in teaching. Charlene is drawn to the Bioinnovate process as she believes a collaborative approach to problem-solving will lead to the development of innovative solutions to the benefit of patient care.
