Kieran has an education and career in mechanical and manufacturing engineering which spans over twenty years. His career began with the completion of a Higher Diploma in engineering and after serving several years in industry he returned to college to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Design. Since gaining his degree and returning to industry Kieran has worked in several manufacturing sectors including automotive, aerospace and MedTech. Currently he is working in the MedTech sector within which he has been employed for more than ten years. Throughout his career to date Kieran has held the roles of lead engineer and project manager on several projects within the sectors previously outlined. Examples of these projects include the mechanical design of innovative equipment to optically analyse hazardous materials and substances employing lasers and electron spectrometry. Past projects involved the design/project engineering and site management installation of automatic processing equipment. Within the MedTech industry Kieran was employed as senior design engineer to lead the design & development of an innovative Med Tech device in the treatment of dietary disease. This project was developed from initial concepts through design, prototyping, manufacture and lab testing to eventual trials held in Dublin and Sweden. Kieran led the design / development team in Galway and worked alongside surgeons throughout the testing phases of the project. Most recently Kieran has been involved as project manager on the development and introduction to manufacture of Med Tech components for use in coronary and oncology procedures. He is very keen to develop further his skills, knowledge and entrepreneurship in the field of Med Tech and Bio Innovation and is very much looking forward to the BioInnovate Fellowship programme of 2021. Kieran’s pastimes include outings with his family, cycling, water sports and hillwalking.
