Dr. Maria Galve Villa has worked in clinical practice for over 15 years. She has practiced in the Irish, Danish and Spanish healthcare systems. Her main area of specialization focuses on the wellbeing and self-management of patients with chronic pain. Maria has also lectured in pain-related subjects in Ireland, Denmark, and Spain.
Maria qualified as a physiotherapist in 2005 from the Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio de Madrid (Spain). In 2011 she was awarded an MSc in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy from University College Dublin (Ireland). In 2020, Maria was awarded a PhD from the Centre of Neuroplasticity and Pain at Aalborg University (Denmark).
Her research investigated the use of digital mapping technology, and explored novel pain metrics to monitor and measure changes in pain over time. Her research aimed to capture, describe, and evaluate the clinical picture of pain and other perceptions (tingling, numbness, etc) using modern digital health technology. Her work has been published in international peer reviewed journals and she has been involved in dissemination activities through international congress presentations, some of which include the European Pain Federation Congress (EFIC) and the World Conference on Pain (IASP).
Maria excels in treating patients with functional (somatic) disorders and complex chronic pain conditions using a bio-psycho-social approach grounded in patient empowerment.
