Alan has extensive product design, manufacturing, people leadership and commercial experience. He graduated with a first class honours degree from GMIT in Manufacturing Engineering in 2004 in addition of attending the Hanzehogeschool Groningen in the Netherlands where he studied International Product Design Engineering. Soon after graduation, Alan worked as a Research & Development Engineer with Medtronic in Galway city. This role allowed him to demonstrate his ability to research disease states, conceptualise product designs and develop products to completion. He worked on projects from phase zero right through to successful commercialisation. He has also been named as Patent inventor under the medical devices classification. Alan's most recent role for the last 13 years was as Director of Engineering and Operations for Electronic Concepts Ltd, a US owned MNC. Alan led a large team, had full P&L responsibility and consistently delivered strong operational and financial performance. During his time there, Alan successfully modernised key operational and business systems. His achievements were heavily influenced by his completion of an executive MBA with honours from the University of Limerick in 2013 and more recent qualifications in employment law and Automation & Robotics. Alan is excited about using his background and enthusiasm for technology and business to help develop solutions to unmet clinical needs and improve healthcare. He believes BioInnovate provides a unique platform for innovation and looks forward to being part of the team and overall network. Alan lives in his home town of Galway with his wife and three kids. He enjoys all types of sports, exercise and outdoor activities when time permits.
