Cathy is a people-centred professional with a wide variety of experiences working as a clinician and business leader in optical businesses in the West of Ireland. She holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Optometry from TU Dublin and a M.Sc. in Clinical Vision Science with Distinction, from Ulster University. The results of her M.Sc. research project were published in a peer-reviewed journal and presented at conferences locally, nationally and internationally. She also holds a Professional Certificate in Glaucoma from the College of Optometrists. A creative thinker and adept in the design thinking process, she recently completed a Professional Diploma in Creativity, Innovation and Leadership, through the Innovation Academy at UCD. An active and self-directed professional, Cathy is a strong advocate for the benefits of continuous professional development. Furthermore, she has presented lectures to optometry students and has facilitated at professional development conferences in Ireland and the UK.
A confident business leader, Cathy has been awarded for her leadership in business. In her previous role as a company director, she gained a great understanding of the needs and challenges in undertaking a new business venture. She has also experienced the immense gratification and fulfilment gained when a new business starts to thrive. Cathy is excited about undertaking the BioInnovate Fellowship and feels privileged to have the opportunity to work with like-minded, innovative professionals to help create novel healthcare solutions. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and has a keen interest in sport, swimming and yoga.
