Interventional Radiology Team

Billy is a Mechanical Engineer specialised in materials research and medical device development. He is a curious creative at heart who transfers this curiosity to innovation and problem solving. He completed his studies in Mechanical Engineering at Trinity College Dublin in 2012 before moving to Canada to begin his engineering career. Since then, he has enjoyed a 7-year tenure in R&D of patient specific 3D printed medical devices with Belgian company Materialise. In this capacity he has led projects across various product portfolios and applications, from ideation through to market launch. He has worked with experienced clinicians along the way to bring both class II & III devices to commercialisation. Most recently he has performed research and market feasibility studies in patient specific bioresorbable applications for which he obtained funding from the Belgian government funding agency in a collaboration with the local university, KU Leuven. Billy’s natural strengths lie in science driven innovation which is evidenced by the IP he has generated as well as research published during his studies. He is excited to apply his experience and skill set to the BioInnovate programme as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with the prospect of generating innovative, marketable solutions for true clinical needs. Billy is also looking forward to moving back to his home county of Galway where, away from work he will focus his time on family and friends as well as his hobbies of running and cycling.
