Douglas is a senior medical officer with Uganda’s Ministry of Health, where he participates in preparedness and response to public health emergencies, policy formulation, mentorship, and support supervision of health service delivery. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from Makerere University, Kampala (2013), and a Master of Science in Public Health from the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, (2023). He also holds a fellowship in Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Policy from Yonsei University, Seoul (2022), and he is a Mandela-Washington Fellow (Leadership in Public Management) from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Georgia State University, (2021). He practiced as a medical doctor in the private sector for two and a half years before joining the public service at China-Uganda Friendship Hospital, Naguru for four and a half years. While at Naguru, he headed the infectious diseases isolation unit and spearheaded the operationalization of the first Viral Haemorrhagic Fever isolation unit in Kampala, conducting training and drills to build capacity and enhance emergency preparedness and response. With a passion for disease prevention and the application of technological solutions to health, he aspires to address major global health challenges. Upon completion of the BioInnovate Fellowship, Douglas envisions contributing actively to a community of ever-innovating professionals improving and inventing the future of medical devices to better human health.
