Sara graduated from School of Medicine in Khartoum University in Sudan in 2009. She practiced in surgery and accident and emergency in Sudan for three years, during which she was awarded full membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She moved to Ireland in 2012, seeking career advancement. She currently has over 6 years’ experience in different surgical subspecialties including: general surgery, neurosurgery, urology, vascular, breast & endocrine, orthopaedics, uro-gynaecology & spinal surgery. She completed a Masters degree in Advanced Surgical Practice at Cardiff University in 2016. She is currently finishing a PhD in Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine at NUIG, with a project based on first in human stem cell clinical trial in Ireland, providing novel therapy for patients with advanced peripheral vascular disease. During her doctoral candidateship, Sara gained invaluable experience in translational medicine and development of new therapies for unmet medical needs. As part of the structured PhD programme, she completed a postgraduate course on Fundamentals of Medical Device Design and EU Regulations. This course along with MedTec Business Canvas Model workshop and interaction with Bioinnovate Alumni; inspired Sara to pursue this fellowship opportunity with a view to use her full experience and maximum potentials in the innovative team environment.
Sara’s other interests include music, reading, and volunteering. She co-founded a charity organization in Ireland providing support and solidarity to violence victims in Sudan and also served in different positions in Sudanese Doctors Union in Ireland.
